When I was a kid we used to say, "Long Time, No See" when we had seen someone just a few minutes or hours before. It was a silly joke, but nonetheless we always smiled or laughed about it. Even today, I still occasionally say this and think it's kinda silly yet funny. For Cemeteries across the nation, Long Time, No See is a reality and no joke. After my trip in the spring to Perry County, then coming home and getting involved in photographing hidden and forgotten cemeteries, I decided recently that I really honestly want to do something about it. I need help though. If you can help me, the money raised goes to helping me clean up a local cemetery. Many of these cemeteries are hard to get to. I need chainsaws, and weed trimmers and rakes and gloves and poison Ivy block.... and I can go on and on. One thing I need most is the time to do so. This fall/winter project's goal is to raise at minimum, $5000 for clean up of Mooresville, Cemetery. By spring, if I can raise the other $5000 for stone cleaning, positioning and identification, I will be truly happy for sure! I know it sounds like a lot of money, but the work is well worth it. Please read my pages on Mooresville, AL and or Google Mooresville. You will find interesting information as well about the X,Y,Z Pastor. Historically, Mooresville is one of a few left. While the remaining homes (some 10-12) retain historical status, the cemetery is forgotten by even those living there today. Please help if you can. I would truly appreciate it!

My way - well, because it's Monday and no one likes a Monday..... Weekends are great for me. I only say that because while I'm generally busy with the kids and family and stuff, when it's over, I get to check my email and I almost always have someone writing me to ask about a family connection or to share something they found.
Last week, I had sent a message to a woman on one of my favorite resources - FindAGrave.com. Her name was Duke, and she had quite a few stones and information on my Duke line. So I wrote her and requested some info be added to one of the family names, and left my email for her. She wrote to me and I am so excited to have made the connection. Let me just tell you something about me. I dislike the phone. I generally do not offer random notes to people I don't know and it takes quite a bit for me to open up at first. But with genealogy, I find that I am more willing to message random people than I am to step out my front door and talk to the neighbor. Is that not the silliest thing you've ever heard? hahaha... well, it is what it is. Back to my story - so she sent me a message telling me about a near Family reunion coming up and we are sharing information. A Reunion. I've never gone to one before. We just were never around for them. I know people have them, but it's a foreign concept to me. While it's still quite a distance from where I live now, and it's not much time to save up to go, I really wish I could make it to one and learn so much about what I'm researching and who I'm researching. I would truly love that. Ohhh to have the ability and money!! Anyway - Welcome back from your weekend. I hope your |
